being part of a solution while providing vocational training…

One of the most striking observations Americans make upon visiting Haiti is the lack of public garbage disposal. Trash is piled in heaps or littered along the ground creating public health issues. Political unrest is a constant in Haiti, but escalated in early 2019. In an effort to provide economic relief for DRM’s immediate community, DRM hired men to help clean the streets starting outside DRM’s walls and extending out into the community. This effort had been in existence before, but ramped up significantly after the upswing in political unrest. What a difference this program has made in the community! The streets are clean and stay that way. Men are trained not just in labor skills but in work ethic, and a few have been identified as cleaning-team managers and are developing leadership skills as well.
